May 6th, 2004 Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Genoa. Thesis: “Correlations between structure and properties with regard to the appearance of high temperature superconductivity in ruthenium based oxides”. Supervisor: Prof. G.A. Costa.

June 1st, 2004 – July 31st, 2004 Worked at Ansaldo Energia in Genoa as a Quality Control technician, attending to chemical and metallographic analyses on steels and superalloys.

Current research activity

- Metal-ceramic interactions, wettability of ceramics by molten metallic systems at high temperature
- Study of the effect of process parameters (temperature, atmosphere, alloy composition) on the metal/ceramic interface properties
- Coupling of wettability experiments to phase diagrams assessment
- Study of metallic alloys/diamond interactions in diamond cutting tools; study of the effect of sintering parameters on the properties of diamond cutting tools.

- Synthesis and characterization of oxide superconductors, with particular reference to ruthenates and ruthenocuprates
- Synthesis and crystallographic characterization of mixed rare earth oxides and oxycarbonates for optical applications.

- Wetting tests by the sessile drop method
- X ray powder diffraction, structural refinements by Rietveld method
- Optical and electronic microscopy (SEM-EDS)
- Solid state synthesis of mixed oxides
