RESEARCH ACTIVITY
Current research activity
The theory of simple liquids and the liquid metals are the current fields of interest.
The molecular dynamic simulations are employed in order to study the thermodynamic, and the thermophysical properties as well as the structure and the transport in simple liquids and in particular in liquid metals systems.
Experimental work is carried out in order to measure the surface tension, the density and to characterize the wettability of molten metallic systems.
The aim of these studies is to contribute to a better understanding of the physical phenomena related to the melting, solidification, demixing processes of liquid metallic systems. These research provides the basic knowledge for development and the optimization of new materials with high performances as, for example, metallic matrix composites materials.
An other part of the research activity is devoted to the study of the applications of heavy liquid metals (e.g. Pb and Pb-Bi) in the IV Gen Nuclear Plants in the framework of some European-Euratom Projects.
